Second Annual Galveston Rebirth-Revival Race Sept. 11

Mostyn Law Firm and the Galveston Historical Foundation will host the second Rebirth and Revival Race the morning of Saturday, Sept. 11. Last year’s 5K was a huge success with more than 950 runners and walkers registered and 150 volunteers. In hopes of improving upon last year’s success, this year’s race will offer both 5K and 10K routes for participants as well as a 1K Kids’ Run.
The race route will begin at the Mardi Gras arch in front of the historic Tremont House hotel and wind through the downtown, Silk Stocking, Kempner Park and San Jacinto neighborhoods. A family-friendly celebration will be held at Saengerfest Park after the race.
GHF will award medals to the winners of each category. The Hotel Galvez & Spa will supply a gift certificate for a two-night stay, valued at $500, to each of the overall winners, male and female, in both the 5K and 10K races. Mostyn Law Firm founder Steve Mostyn is thrilled to co-host the race.
“Galveston Island has been part of my family for as long as I can remember … I am happy to give back to Galveston by supporting the Historical Foundation and the restoration of the island,” he says.
The law firm, with offices in Houston, Beaumont and Austin, specializes in insurance and personal injury claims as well as complex business litigation.
Some of the historic attractions along the race route will include Ashton Villa, The Lyceum of Galveston Island, Open Gates, Old Central Cultural Center and Garten Verein.
All proceeds from the race will go towards supporting GHF and its mission of preservation, community redevelopment, maritime preservation, stewardship of historic properties and public education. Volunteers Needed

The Galveston Historical Foundation is seeking volunteers to help with the Rebirth-Revival Race on Sept. 11.

The 10K/5K/1K Run/Walk commemorating the two-year anniversary of Hurricane Ike will weave through Galveston’s historic neighborhoods.

It begins at 8 a.m. at the Mardi Gras Arch in front of the historic Tremont House Hotel. Volunteers are needed to set up the race, man the registration/check-in station, act as directional guides along the route, provide water at water stations and help with the post-race party in Saengerfest Park.

Also, the week before the race, volunteers are needed to help prepare race packets and staff the packet pick-up locations. To volunteer, go to www.galvestonhistory.org.
