A dream fulfilled

Story By Alyssa Jaisle, Photos By Elizabeth Madson
Thomas Napulia is a lifetime resident of Galveston and most likely affected your life or the life or someone you know. Napulia is a fantastic asset to the island, and even though he has left for the mainland occasionally, he remained a BOI at heart and has always made his way home. Thomas has put hundreds of hours in to bettering the community and now is the owner of Roadhouse Barbecue.

Opening up his own restaurant was a lifetime dream for Napulia and after many years and trials his dream has finally come true. After graduating from Ball High School, Thomas pursued a full baseball scholarship at nationally ranked Hill Jr. College. Sadly, after experiencing a career-ending injury, Thomas returned home to Galveston to work as Athletic Director of the Galveston Boys and Girls Club. He later went on to work as a corrections officer at the Galveston County Juvenile Detention Center.
In 2009 Thomas left the Island once again to be a chef for the Houston Rockets players and coaches. It was an exciting and glamorous job, but after the Rocket’s coach, Jeff VanGundy was fired, Thomas was forced to return to Galveston once again where he picked up his previous job as juvenile correction officer.
Even though Napulia turns a profit serving his delicious he also serves BBQ for many non-profit purposes. He sponsors BBQs to raise money for people with medical expenses, families who lost their possessions in house fires, and has even held a fundraiser to help the Ball High School Basketball Team make the long and expensive trip to Canada for a tournament. He has plans to continue running his restaurant and supporting the community, and in the future aims to introduce a line of healthy and nutritional meals to assist in dieting. He thanks God, his mother Eugenia, father Tom, little sister Monica Clark and business partner Eddie Rios for helping him reach his goals and getting to the point in life where he is at today.

Roadhouse Barbecue & Grill is located at 5703 Stewart Road

frog at home

You would never realize how badly you need a pelican lamp until you step foot into The Frog at Home. That is the type of fine furniture store The Frog at Home is. Each item is so beautiful and tasteful that you will immediately begin to picture where you could place each piece in your home.

This month’s newest items include coastal lamps, Palmetto Creek chairs in a variety of colors and a living room collection by Beach Craft. The Palmetto Creek chairs come in stunning colors such as coconut, pineapple, black, kiwi and blueberry. These colorful dining chairs are an easy way to change the look of your dining space without remodeling the whole area.
Another great way to make a statement with a single item is the shell chandelier that is for sale. Dozens of tiny shells dangle from the sea foam shade and will draw any guest’s eye to the ceiling.
The sofa below is apart of the Beach Craft collection and there are different fabric options to choose from. The Frog at Home receives new items constantly and always has plenty of beautiful furniture and home decor in stock.
Frog at Home is located at 2701 Broadway at 27th Street. Visit them online at FrogatHome.com or call 409-762-FROG (3764) for more information.
